When people think “Bahamas on points,” they usually picture one resort, one redemption, done. We did something slightly different on our 7 night trip with our 5-year-old: we split our stay between two of Nassau’s biggest resorts — Baha Mar and Atlantis — using three completely different points strategies to get there and stay.
Here’s exactly how it broke down.
The flight: American Airlines, CLT → Nassau
We flew American Airlines from Charlotte (CLT) to Nassau (NAS) using Atmos points instead of paying cash. This route is short and frequently has saver-level award space, which makes it one of the more approachable international award redemptions for a family — you don’t need to hunt for months to find seats for multiple people on the same flight.
We paid 45,000 Atmos miles round trip for two adults and one child (15k per person – round trip) and $358.59 in cash for fees and taxes. The cash price would have been $1800.
Stay #1: Baha Mar, via Chase → World of Hyatt

Baha Mar’s Hyatt-branded properties are bookable with World of Hyatt points, which means Chase Ultimate Rewards points (transferred at the standard ratio) can get you there. We transferred Chase points into Hyatt and booked our nights at Baha Mar this way.
The bonus: we were able to secure a Guest of Honor award which included our daily breakfast, two drinks per day, late check-out and a free room upgrade. For a family trip, small upgrades and extra touches like this go a long way when you’re juggling a tired kid and resort logistics.
We paid 120,000 Hyatt points for 4 nights. The cash price would have been $2700.
Stay #2: Atlantis, via Amex → Marriott free night certificate

For the second half of the trip, we moved over to Atlantis using a Marriott free night certificate — earned through an Amex Marriott Bonvoy card’s annual certificate benefit, not points we manually transferred. This is a detail worth highlighting because it’s one of the most underrated tools in the points game: an annual free night certificate is value you get just for paying a card’s annual fee, whether or not you ever “play” the points-transferring game.
We used 3 Free Night Certificates that we got through the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Business Card. The cash price is $1100.
Why splitting the stay worked for us
Rather than committing 100% of our trip to one resort, splitting time between Baha Mar and Atlantis meant:
- Two completely different resort experiences and pool/water park setups for our kid
- We weren’t reliant on a single points currency having availability — if Hyatt hadn’t worked out, we still had the Marriott certificate as a backup plan
- It maximized perks we already had access to (Guest of Honor + Amex certificates we’d have “wasted” otherwise) instead of leaving value on the table
The takeaway for your own Bahamas trip
You don’t need one “perfect” redemption to make a trip like this work. We stitched together a flight on airline miles, one hotel stay on transferable points, and one hotel stay on a card benefit we already had — three different tools, one trip. If you’re earning points across a couple of cards already, there’s a good chance you have more options sitting in your wallet for a trip like this than you realize
